Craft: the intricate process of handcrafting. I received inspiration from Mladen Stilinovic’s “Artist at Work” (1978), a series of images showing the artist laying down, closing their eyes, and turning away from the camera. The work encourages laziness and rest while at work. This is a performed representation of always being at work, highlighting the artist working in a free/comforting environment, allowing for more creativity while resting and enjoying the work. I understood that Laziness can be a positive assertion. Receiving relief from stress by resting. The piece emphasizes the idea that “work” shouldn’t be done in such a constrained environment especially when crafting/art-making. I believe that more rest can allow more space for intimacy between the work and the artist. Even if through the slow processes, it can become more of a meaningful experience.

Therefore,
I have created a sleep kit to encourage more rest and breaks.
